BSV Blockchain is pleased to announce the launch of the new SPV Wallet browser extension. The browser extension aims to streamline the user experience and enhance security by integrating lightweight SPV Wallet capabilities directly within users’ browsers.
SPV Wallet is an open-source, non-custodial hosted wallet that seamlessly integrates with the existing BSV ecosystem. It serves as the standardised open-source wallet reference implementation for the BSV ecosystem.
Developed and maintained by the BSV Association, SPV Wallet is designed to be cost-effective and accessible. It is 100x cheaper to run than a full node, making it an ideal solution for businesses who want to participate in the BSV network without being transaction processors themselves.
‘This project centred on developing a Chrome extension for the official BSV Blockchain reference implementation wallet – SPV Wallet,’ explained Thomas Giacomo, Director of Utilisation at BSV Blockchain.
‘This was done by adapting the existing Yours Wallet to incorporate SPV functionality using the open-source ts-sdk (TypeScript SDK). Yours Wallet will then use the SPV Wallet open-source components to ensure its alignment with SPV reference implementation.
‘We would like to extend our thanks to the team at Yours Wallet and specifically to Dan Wagner and David Case for their open-source contribution illustrating the open-source shift of BSV Blockchain.’
The SPV Wallet
In April 2024, BSV Blockchain announced that its new SPV Wallet is now available in public beta. SPV Wallet is the standardised way that BSV wallets will be able to interact with the BSV Blockchain network as Teranode and Overlay services go live.
It can be used in place of the BSV blockchain node software to validate transactions and make outbound payments. Accepting payments in this way is better for compliance purposes because your server communicates directly with counterparties.
This allows KYC and AML data to be validated before any payment negotiations, domain-specific controls, and many configurable options to meet requirements in your jurisdiction.
Darren Kellenschwiler, Technical lead of Utilisation at BSV Blockchain noted that the wallet extension would be maintained with funding from the BSV Association, ensuring that it aligns with BSV blockchain standards. This alignment would prevent duplicated efforts and streamline development, providing clear benefits for both the Association and Yours Wallet.
‘A strategic approach was discussed to future-proof the wallet infrastructure, preparing it for potentially high transaction volumes. This will ensure the infrastructure remains robust even in scenarios of significant success,’ he said,
