The BlockchainxODS project consists of 17 challenges, one for each SDG, where students from Catalan universities will propose solutions in order to solve the problems exposed through the challenges. These events are promoted by the CBCat together with other collaborating institutions and companies.

It is an opportunity for companies to get in direct contact with students and find, jointly, solutions to the different problems that arise; at the same time, these initiatives can be turned into real business models.

What are SDGs ?

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs, or SDGs) are the goals set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with the aim of ‘eradicate poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and curb climate change, among others.

This agenda marks global action for development by 2030 and, together with the rest of the global agendas, sets out a roadmap for action connected to each other to achieve a common goal: sustainable global development.

Third edition: Decarbonization

The 3rd challenge of the Blockchain4SDG project will be carried out on decarbonization and in collaboration with the BSV Blockchain business hub as the main partner. The challenge will take place between April and November according to the planned global calendar.

The challenge will consist of: “Calculation of CO2 absorption of a specific wooded area and the subsequent monetization of this absorption as an incentive for decarbonization”

The measurements will be carried out with low-orbit satellites, or with drones, in a specific wooded area prepared for this purpose and in agreement with its owner.

The first phase is to determine how this CO2 absorption calculation is performed, measured, stored, guaranteed and followed, and the second is to monetize this atmospheric cleaning. Both steps need to be solved, obviously, with blockchain technology.

Registration period: from June 15 to July 31
Solution design: September – October
Project delivery: October 31
Jury deliberation: first week of November
Final Ceremony: November 10 or 11 (coinciding with the Democracy4All event )
