The BSV blockchain has several characteristics which make it ideal for payments, but it can also be used for everything from NFTs to gaming, says Rafa Jimenez (Chief Technical Officer and Co-Founder of HandCash).
Speaking on the sidelines at the recent London Blockchain Conference, Jimenez explained that the HandCash suite of products offers a range of ways to interact with the BSV blockchain, with the HandCash wallet providing a sleek and feature-packed application for end-users.
HandCash Connect forms part of this suite of tools and is made up of a set of APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) that developers can use to integrate HandCash wallet functionality into their applications. This allows users to sign in to their HandCash wallet from within third-party apps and perform transactions seamlessly.
Offering a solution – not a technology
Jimenez noted that HandCash never tries to sell blockchain itself, but rather a product that is empowered by the blockchain. ‘The most important thing for us is making everything very easy for them. Because blockchain is very nice, it’s very sophisticated, but it can be very scary and can take a long time for developers to integrate,’ he said.
‘When you’re building a new product, you want to make sure that you’re building the right product and you want to know that as soon as possible. So ideally, you don’t want to invest a year or six months trying to figure out how to even get started. And that’s where HandCash comes in very handy for them,’ he said.
Jimenez added that his target companies are not typically well-versed in Web3 technologies and may only be hearing about blockchain for the first time. This means that they may not be familiar with all of the various use cases and the competitive advantages on offer, he said.
‘So our job and our role is to bring the newcomers to this technology, the games who still are trying to make the first steps into the blockchain direction,’ he said.
NFTs and gaming
HandCash offers a software development kit (SDK) for developers, providing libraries, documentation, and code samples to facilitate the integration of HandCash wallet features into their projects. The SDK helps developers streamline the process of building applications that leverage HandCash’s capabilities.
This includes non-fungible tokens (NFTs) so that developers can create game items which can be traded by players. While the ability to trade game items has existed for several years, Jimenez noted that the industry has been plagued by a lack of clarity over what is legal as well as bad actors taking advantage of the sector.
‘And that’s exactly what blockchain is about. It’s about trust. It’s about allowing everyone to verify what’s going on. And that’s making this a secondary market for game items,’ he said.
‘So game developers and game studios, they’re very excited about this because they can offer an innovative way for their users to trade with the game items and to create new experiences. And at the same time, they are still able to monetise that secondary market, getting some royalties. So, that is a very nice use case that fits very well with blockchain’.
